A Brief History of RG
RG was founded in 1980, dedicated to helping clients avoid common sources of failure in implementing major programs. While our portfolio of services has expanded and evolved, our people remain committed to the founding legacy of applying professional excellence and innovative ideas to make our clients successful.
When John Gioia and Jack Robbins signed the documents forming RG, they had seen during their combined half-century of government service dozens of high-profile, high-risk government programs fail, often for similar reasons. In these failures, they saw an opportunity: to work with the government to avoid program failures and, ultimately, make customers more successful.
In 1981, RG had a staff of eight working on its first contract, on the Strategic Air Command Digital Information Network (SACDIN) program, involved implementing secure electronic switches for ITT. RG successfully brought this multi-million dollar program to completion on time and under budget.
By 1996, the company had close to 450 employees with a home office at 11 Canal Center Plaza in Alexandra, VA. Major contracts included Coopers & Lybrand and the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (CAPITAL Programme), USAA, United Airlines, and Fort Monmouth. The successful contracts, partnerships, and sectors that RG has been involved with over the past few decades are a testament to the methodologies and services that RG specializes in.
A core element of RG’s consulting services is providing Business Analysis and Enterprise Architecture to ensure that programs have a well-defined roadmap and technology framework. To provide greater consistency and incorporate industry best practices in a methodology to support successful program delivery, RG adopted LINKProcess™, which was acquired with Doreen Evans Associates, a consulting firm, in late 2012.
The methodology has become an essential part of RG's business capabilities' portfolio. It took about a year to fully integrate LINKProcess™ into the company and make it compatible with RG's enterprise delivery models which combine program management, business analysis, enterprise architecture and systems delivery into a holistic approach. This methodology has become an integral part of RG's quality management system and has established a strong foundation for current and future projects.
The use of LINKProcess™ improves the efficiency and quality of business change at all levels within an organization and has driven major systems modernization programs for government and commercial clients by providing a structured approach for successful delivery. The long-term results put RG in an enviable position as a leader at the forefront of systems modernization in the Federal government.
At the heart of the methodology is establishing a program roadmap for projects by eliciting strategic goals, business objectives, and management requirements, and applying industry best practices and best-in-class tools and techniques to capture and refine those into a comprehensive set of living documents which form the backbone of business transformation. The inherent flexibility of the approach enables it to adapt to different project approaches, and LINKProcess™ has been successfully applied to waterfall, Agile and hybrid delivery programs.
RG’s expertise in consulting services for commercial and public sector work has expanded throughout the decades to achieve several milestones and successful business partnerships.
